Good morning, everyone! Today, I am briefly going over four GOALS that you need to implement into your daily routine immediately! These are my personal building blocks to becoming more successful: getting up at 5 AM, writing down your personal aspirations every morning, reading 20 pages a day, and engaging in physical activity for at least 30-45 minutes a day.
Why 5 AM? Waking up at 5 AM can help boost Productivity: Early mornings often provide a quiet, distraction-free environment, allowing you to focus better on tasks without interruptions. You can get a head start on your day, tackle important projects, or engage in activities like exercise or meditation before the rest of the world wakes up. Getting up early has allowed me to check things off of my personal growth list. I have the same routine, every morning, wash my face, brush my teeth, and do some light exercising/stretches. All of these steps allow me to get the blood moving and helps completely wake me up so that I don’t start off the day feeling sluggish. I also start a pot of coffee for me and the wife. Being more productive is just one reason why I wake up early and I might do a dedicated newsletter about all the benefits of getting up earlier, next week. For now I’ll leave you with this from Carmelo Anthony “Every morning you have two choices: continue to sleep with your dreams, or wake up and chase them."
Writing down your personal aspirations every morning is extremely helpful in giving you the ability to adequately visualize your current goals. They are no longer thoughts ricocheting every which way in your cranium. They become unmoving, calm, and quiet, which allows you to focus on them with more precision. Not only does it provide more focus and clarity, but it also motivates you to take action. One of my goals is to become a more confident speaker, and by writing this down, I can also jot down ways to achieve this objective. Tying goals to actions increases the probability of success. Additionally, reviewing your aspirations each morning can quickly tell you where you have improved and where improvements are still needed. It can remind you of your short or long-term goals and allows you to remember why they were your goals in the first place.
Reading 20 pages a day. Where did I even come up with this number? I was doing research for an article in last week's newsletter. In this article, I was comparing the time that I had spent on activities that didn't align with my current personal growth goals. I found that reading 20 pages a day would average out to about 60 books a year. This intrigued me because that would be an amazing feat. Imagine all of the knowledge I could acquire, all of the new words I would add to my vocabulary, and how it would help me with my writing skills! I talk about a couple of the books I am currently reading in my previous newsletter. I have come to understand that reading stimulates your brain and encourages mental engagement. It challenges your cognitive abilities, improves concentration, and keeps your mind active. If you want to improve your vocabulary, creativity, and knowledge, you should seriously consider reading every day! My goal is 20 pages, but that does not have to be where you start. You might be able to do more than 20, or you might only have time to read 5. Just make sure you start this and strive to stay consistent.
Last, but certainly not least: physical activity. Physical activity is amazing for both the body and the mind. When you exert yourself beyond normal levels, your brain triggers the release of various neurotransmitters and hormones, such as endorphins, dopamine, and serotonin. We can go over the benefits of these at a later date. Other benefits include increased cardiovascular health, stronger bones and muscles, and it can also aid in weight management. I try to work out at least 5 days a week, and I am always striving to stay in motion. My future self will thank me! To paraphrase Isaac Newton’s Law of Inertia: "An object at rest will remain at rest, and an object in motion will remain in motion." Push for some form of physical activity - a minimum of 10 minutes each day! I will be going into more detail about all of the health benefits of physical activity, as well as what exercises I am doing to increase my health, in a newsletter next month.
I think these goals are the perfect balance to improve your mental and physical health. I hope you take the time to implement at least one, if not all, of these steps into your daily routine. Comment which goals you are currently working on. I hope this serves as motivation for you to take that next step towards personal growth! Have a great weekend, and I look forward to seeing you here for next week's newsletter.
